FC Barcelona was able to come back from the dead. After two trophiless seasons under Frank Rijkaard, Barcelona has added new silverware to their cabinet.
Barcelona favourite Josep “Pep” Guardiola was appointed as the new Barcelona manager. In his debut season, he won a ‘treble’, winning the La Liga, UEFA Champions League, and the Copa Del Rey.
However, their success wasn’t his doing alone. Helped by the three forwards, Thierry Henry, Lionel Messi, and Samuel Eto’o. The trio which scored more goals than any other, With Lionel Messi finishing top scorer with 38 goals.
On top of their “treble”, Barca defeated arch rivals, Real Madrid twice this season, which was even sweeter given the 6-2 thrashing they gave them in front of their supporters. They are currently ranked number one in the fifa world rankings and two of their star players,. Lionel Messi and Xavi Hernandes, were nominated for the FIFA Player of The Year Award.
The team has achieved what no other Spanish league team can. The 2008-09 season has been very successful for Barcelona. It seems as though little changes will be made to the team and they will definitely start the new season stronger than ever, so beware.
